Manish Malhotra ends fabulous Lakmé Winter/Festive

Graduating three giant wooden frames hung from the ceiling edged with hundreds of bulbs. The long glass ramp gleamed under the lights. The stage framed in ornate silver with long sheer curtains hid the excitement behind. The packed Ballroom of The Grand Hyatt with standing room only, had hundreds waiting to get in to catch a glimpse of the amazing Lakmé Grand Finale; which ended the Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2011, with the outstanding collection from the “Badshah of Bollywood Couture”, Manish Malhotra.

Revealing his interpretations of the high performance long wear makeup range, Lakmé ABSOLUTE, Manish displayed his creative skills by showing garments of ultimate beauty and style. The Lakmé Grand Finale at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2011 showcased a collection that was glamorous and sophisticated, with a soul that was Indian. The Lakmé ABSOLUTE range is specially created for the contemporary Indian woman and designed for the Indian skin-tone enabling every woman to be magical every day of her life.

It was a collection of international standard inspired by the looks of Lakmé ABSOLUTE cosmetic range, which combined hi-tech and hi-fashion in the most sensational manner that dazzled the audience.

As the lights in the Ballroom dimmed, the stylish AV showed the wonderful products of Lakmé ABSOLUTE and the face of the brand the absolutely gorgeous super star of Bollywood, Kareena Kapoor. Her “ABSOLUTE” favourites from the range are Super Light Mattereal Mousse, Plum and Shine Gloss, ABSOLUTE Lip Last and the Two Way Compact.

From then on it was glamour and glitz all the way, as the silk curtains parted to reveal a giant clock as the backdrop and the stage lined with handsome male models. The first model descended from the ceiling down the lit steps wearing a breathtaking white embellished kurta with accented wing shoulder detailing and a pink diaphanous lehenga.

What followed were the most magnificent Indian and western creations comprising swirling panelled lehengas, amazingly constructed cholis, superb saris and serene avant garde gowns. Each creation was a dream to behold as silver and resham embroidery covered the ensembles in a brilliant manner.

Rich fabrics like, lace, chiffon, silk, net, velvet in primary shades of white and candy floss pink were teamed with black, wine, gold, pale grey, metallics and cherry red. Gowns were either will-power or sexy with plunging ‘V’ necks and moulded to the body and flared into dozens of panels. Sheer net appeared for Kalidar covers, which were draped over luxuriously opulent skirts making the ensembles ideal bridal wear.

Men’s wear was formal with sherwanis, some with wide cuffs, long smock coats at times pleated or gathered - were at others times lean and layered over kurtas. The colour story was masculine with black grey, white and wine with a hint of fuchsia for collars and cuffs.

At the end of the stunning display by49 models the lights dimmed, the music rose to a crescendo, the UV lights flashed and the audience held its breadth for the most amazing moment – the appearance of the face of Lakmé ABSOLUTE. As the lights came on, framed against the giant clock high up on the stage, the gorgeous Kareena Kapoor descended down to terra firma amidst thundering applause and took the ramp in a fabulous white layered lace, silk, net gown with a shimmering bodice and a radiant smile with her flawless skin, wearing the beautiful Lakmé ABSOLUTE range of products.

As the man behind this fantastic show took his bow, Manish Malhotra rocked down the ramp with the beautiful Kareena Kapoor and confetti bursts showered the audience, to mark the end of one of the most memorable Lakmé Grand Finales that launched the Lakmé ABSOLUTE Line with the gorgeous collection of Manish Malhotra.

What an end it was to Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2011 which will be remembered for months as the night of ultimate style, glamour, beauty and couture.

Kendall posted pictures from the shoot for designer Sherri Hill on her blog today.

The high school student looks years older with enormous curled hair, smoky eye make-up and oversize earrings as she poses in the daring sequinned gown.

The younger generation are starting to catch up to their sisters' fame and are scoring lucrative modelling and endorsement contracts.

Kim was the only member of the family to make an appearance at the VMAs last night, and showed off her dangerous curves last night in a gunmetal glitter backless floor-length gown.

She also flaunted her glittering new wedding band, which she paired with her whopping $2.5m engagement ring, wore her raven-hair out in a straight style and sported a hint of a holiday tan.

The star took to the stage to present the Best Male Video Award to 17-year-old pop sensation Justin Bieber, but surprised many by arriving at the awards without husband Kris Humphries.

It was the 30-year-old's very first public outing since her wedding just over a week ago.

While the reality star was busy working the red carpet, she explained that her new hubby was back in his hometown of Minnesota packing.

'He's in Minnesota! Packing for NYC for a few months,' she said.

The couple are moving to Downtown Manhattan for a few months, while Kim films Kourtney and Kim Take New York.

And it appears that Kim wasn't missing her man too much.

The reality beauty kept busy catching up on all the gossip with her TV journalist and actress friend Maria Menounos, and sat just two seats away from Twilight star Taylor Lautner.

Cheryl Cole gets to work on set of What To Expect When You're Expecting

It was revealed earlier this month that Cheryl Cole could be starring in her first Hollywood movie, What To Expect When You're Expecting.

And now the former X Factor judge has started work on the film in Atlanta, Georgia, alongside Cameron Diaz. The 28-year-old star was spotted on the set, showing off her figure in a tight black Emilio Pucci lace dress and sky-high heels as she made her way to film her first scenes.



The film – whose cast also includes actors Dennis Quaid, Chris Rock and Matthew Morrison - chronicles the lives of four couples as they prepare to become parents.

And, in what could be construed as a side-swipe at Simon Cowell after she was sacked from X Factor USA, Cheryl will play a TV talent show judge for her cameo role in the film.

Cameron plays Jules who auditions in an X Factor-style contest in front of the TV talent show judge - Cheryl's character.

Cheryl is said to have initially impressed Hollywood film bosses during a four-day appearance at the Cannes Film Festival in May.

A film source revealed to the Daily Mail earlier this year: ‘This is a bit of fun for Cheryl. She will film the scenes imminently and is really looking forward to it.

'It doesn’t mean she suddenly wants to become actress. It was just an opportunity that has come up while she has been having some down time and she thought it would be great fun to take part.’

A spokesperson for the singer confirmed at the time: 'Cheryl Cole is confirmed for a small cameo appearance in the film What to Expect When You're Expecting.'

Meanwhile, in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Simon Cowell said he wouldn't hesitate to offer Cheryl a role on another of his TV projects.

Defending his decision to replace Cheryl with Nicole Scherzinger in the US, Cowell said: 'You're not drowning puppies here.

'You're offering someone who's got millions of dollars more money and more work. And if people think that's cruel, then they can do that to me on a daily basis. I'll take it twice a day.'

Cowell also confirmed that he offered Cheryl the chance to return to UK X Factor, but negotiations fell apart and they hadn't spoken since.

He said: 'She missed the deadline which meant she'd lost the UK show. I asked her manager Will.i.am, "How does she feel about it?" He said, "It's none of your concern."

'I never heard from her... I think her silence was quite damning.'

Sonam Kapoor is face of jewellery week

Sonam Kapoor is the face of the India International Jewellery Week (IIJW) after designer Farah Khan Ali, who created waves at the inaugural edition last year decided to give it a miss this time due to other commitments.

The five-day event, organised by the Gems & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) begins in Mumbai on July 31.


"I am not showcasing at the second edition of the jewellery week as I am working on a bigger project which requires time and concentration," Farah, was in the news recently after international singer Beyonce Knowles wore a crown designed by her for a new music album "4", told IANS.

The jewellery at Mumbai's Grand Hyatt hotel will see collections from designers like Varuna D. Jani and brands like Amrapali, Tanishq and Ganjam.

Top Bollywood celebrities, models and some international icons, whose names are being kept under wraps, have been roped in to walk the ramp during the event.

Making a style statement with Gandhi Topi

Who would have envisioned a 74-year-old man making a fashion statement with his white kurta pyjama and Gandhi Topi in the 21st century? But Anna Hazare has allured youth who are not only supporting his anti-corruption movement but imitating his style as well.

According to designers, the Gandhi Topi - a slim boat-shaped cap often worn with a slight tilt that was the sartorial symbol of India's freedom movement - was always in demand but the reformer has pushed its popularity to another level and made it look very "cool".
"The Gandhian Topi has been in trend since the 1900s. The cap was usually worn by people on Republic Day and Independence Day. What we can say is Anna has brought the fashion trend back," designer Anjalee Kapoor told IANS.

"But his style of wearing the topi has become a very important aspect of the movement. He has made it look very cool," she added.
The market is flooded with these caps which have "I AM ANNA" written over them and street vendors from all over India - Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Kolkata and Ahmedabad - are selling it.
"We had made around 1,500 topis only for Independence Day and I was doubtful whether I would be able to sell the whole stock. But it was a surprise to find youngsters buying these caps. By Aug 16, when Annaji went on fast, the caps ran out of stock in no time," said Amrit Kumar, a vendor who sells at Ramlila Maidan, the site of Anna' protest fast.
